Why is the Simon Center so Special?

Why is the Simon Center so Special?

The Simon Center was established in January 1990. In the Year 2000, we became NAEYC Accredited. Since then, we were able to maintain this certification to date.  RESCC was named after Robert E. Simon, Jr., the founder of Reston.

The number one thing that sets RESCC apart from other schools? It is the Family Oriented environment that the teachers, children and families have created together. I personally had all three of my children attend the Simon Center. My oldest child is 10 years old. When she was 2 years old, she met her best friend here, still 8 years later they are best friends. Whenever I bring my older children to RESCC, they are so excited to see their old teachers. The teachers here still remember all the children that they had. Some families who came here ten plus years ago still come to visit and keep us posted on their children’s progression in life!  The school has their Annual Winter Fest and Silent Auction. This is a great way for the families to get together, set up play dates and get to know one another better.

The second unique thing about the Simon Center is that the overturn rate of teachers is very low. The Director has been here for over 25 years, starting as a toddler teacher working her way up to being the Director. The Assistant Director started working here in 2010 as a toddler teacher, then preschool, and our one and only year of Private Kindergarten. As for the teachers, some have been here 20 plus years and retired here! The rest of the teachers most have been here as little as a year to five years and 10 years. All the teachers work together amazingly. They are truly here for the children, their safety and well-being.  The bond that they create with each family is simply amazing.

Lastly, this school includes a bunch of perks with no extra charge. For the infants, our school provides Kirkland formula, and jar foods. Once they turn 12 months or when they are developmentally ready, they will then eat the school’s breakfast, lunch and snack which is catered. We have Music for Life once a week where someone comes to the school to teach the children about different instruments and notes. This is for all ages. When children turn two, they can then participate in Yoga class once a week, and in our preschool classes there is Spanish instruction once a week, too. We have Mother Goose who comes a few times a year, which is a great way for the children to dress-up and put on their own play to different nursery rhymes and themes. The school recently updated their library. Classes come to the library for a “Field Trip” to pick out books for their classrooms.

In the PreK Class, they grow their own garden and eat what they grow. They also enjoy baking in the classroom. This class prepares and helps the children to have an easy transition into kindergarten.  Another special addition to the school is the different languages that our teachers speak. It is great to hear them teach new words to the children in their home language.

All in all, RESCC is a one of a kind “Home away from Home” school!  RESCC is the way to go. From birth to Pre-K, your child will grow tremendously!
