Our childcare program

Robert E. Simon, Jr. Children’s Center is a NAEYC-accredited, non-profit child development center created to meet the childcare needs of the community.  All classrooms use our developmentally appropriate curriculum approved by the Virginia Department of Education.  We are committed to improving our program and participate in the Virginia Quality Birth to Five System as we prepare each child for kindergarten.

Every moment is an opportunity

All children are encouraged to participate in a variety of activities. The classrooms are set up with learning centers.  Teachers take advantage of “teachable moments” during the day. Low staff-child ratios allow for individual attention to be provided to each child.

Special Activities

In the past, we have offered a variety of special activities at the Robert E. Simon, Jr. Children’s Center including:

  • Cultural music programs
  • Creative art
  • Spanish instruction
  • Yoga
  • Interactive musical and dramatic performances
  • Family get-togethers
  • Puppet shows
  • Trike-A-Thon
  • Annual family events

Food Program

As a full-day preschool program, we provide a catered cold breakfast, a hot lunch and a light afternoon snack. We also accommodate children with various food restrictions, including a daily vegetarian lunch as an option.

For infants, we will provide formula, box cereals and jar foods, or parents can bring in breast milk or formula and baby food from home.
