Parent Spotlight

Denise Gramsky is a long time Simon Center parent. Learn about her and her family below, as well as why she fell in love with the Simon Center!

Denise Gramsky and her family, her husband Nick and their three boys Miles, Bryce, and Rainier, are a longtime Simon Center family. In November of 2015, twins Miles and Bryce were the first to join us at the Center, followed by Rainier two years later in November 2017. Denise has been an actively involved parent at the Simon Center since joining, and currently serves as the Vice President of our parent-led board.

A parent-led board was one of the biggest attributes of the Simon Center that drew Denise to us, along with being a nonprofit and the comforting and family-oriented environment of the center. “It was just like coming home. I don’t know how else to describe it.” It was also important to Denise that the daycare she chose for her family embraced inclusivity and provided an equal opportunity for all children to participate in a wide range of activities. She felt that created a better environment for her children to learn and allowed them to build stronger relationships with their peers.

As a busy working professional in the technology industry, Denise knows the importance of having a daycare that you can feel comfortable taking your children to each day, and know that they are learning valuable skills and developing the abilities they need to succeed as they prepare to enter school. Miles and Bryce will be entering second grade this upcoming year, and Denise recalls that they were more than prepared when kindergarten came around. “It was an easy transition for them. They had all the right life skills and coping skills that a kindergartener would need. We didn’t struggle with any issues, and I think that’s because of how the Simon Center had them set up to succeed in school.”

She feels strongly that one of the reasons her boys entered school so prepared coming from the Simon Center is the flexibility and maneuverability given to the teachers to tailor their classroom curriculum to fit the individual children in their class. She recalled that in one of her son’s classes last school year a particular theme really interested the children, so the teacher incorporated it into several lessons. “It was transportation, and it was such a hit that they stayed on the topic for three weeks because the kids were so excited to talk about trucks, and heavy machinery, and trains, and ships, and airplanes. Whereas some other places it may have been more of, ‘Nope. We’re moving on to the next topic.’ But here at the Simon Center they were able to keep going and were still able to keep the topic fresh and keep the kids moving forward.”

Miles and Bryce currently attend the sibling summer program at Simon Center, and Rainier is a member of our Bear room. Outside of the Simon Center, the Gramsky family loves to spend time exploring local water ways and watching Nationals baseball.

We are very lucky to have such wonderful families and parents in the Simon Center family and are immensely grateful to Denise for all her time and dedication to being such an involved and valuable Simon Center parent!
