A Note From Our Director

Goodbye.

There is a country song that says something like “I don’t know why they call it a ‘good’ bye.” That’s how feel. While my leaving the Simon Center is a good move for me and my family, it is EXTREMELY sad, too. I have been here since I was 29 years old. I feel like I have “grown up” here. I have certainly gained so much knowledge, not only of child development, but of relationships.

Because the Simon Center is such a small community, I have built relationships that lasted my entire career here. There are families I had in my first year I am still in contact with. The children have graduated from college and have “real” jobs, like grown-ups. I, of course, will always see them as five years old.

Perhaps the greatest thing I have gained here at the Simon Center is the knowledge of what makes me happy. I know children make me happy. I know that long-lasting, true relationships make me happy. I have also learned that I have a need to be back in the classroom. While my time spent as the director has been both challenging and rewarding, I have realized that the reason I went into this field is to be in the classroom. So, in my next big life adventure, I am heading back into the classroom. This makes me happy! I hope you all find your happiness!

If you’re ever in Ohio, give me a shout. Much love!

Jen
